NEW WEBINAR: 2025 → 2026: Looking Back to the Future. What’s Next for Data & AI in the Coming Year?
In 2025, the use of generative AI continued to grow, both fueling and being fueled by open data. We saw changes to rules and standards around data and AI governance. We saw shifts in public attitude and growing concerns about the data winter.
With coming changes to landmark AI laws, the economy, and communities themselves, 2026 could be a year of even more profound change. Given this, there is an urgent need to take stock of the current situation and the emerging opportunities that data practitioners should be aware of.
On January 8, 2026, The GovLab will host a small group of thinkers across regions and sectors to exchange insights on what will shape the coming year. The international, cross-sector discussion will include presentations from:
- Stefaan Verhulst, Co-Founder and Chief Research and Development Officer, The GovLab (Moderator)
- Jed Sundwall, Executive Director, Radiant Earth
- Guilherme Canela De Souza Godoi, Director for Division for Digital Inclusion and Policies and Digital Transformation (CI/DPT) and Secretary of the Information for All Programme, UNESCO
- Susan Ariel Aaronson, Research Professor of International Affairs and Director, Digital Trade and Data Governance Hub. Elliot School of International Affairs, George Washington University
This event will be a 60-minute webinar, composed of several, brief presentations each surveying a different topic or area of interest. Each presentation will be 15 minutes and be followed by a 5 minute question-and-answer period.
